Tours of Kilbeggan Harbour Building for Heritage Week
Tours of Kilbeggan Harbour Building (N91 RXC5) are available on August 21-23 (2-4pm), when people are invited to see the fully restored building now re-purposed as offices.
Built between 1832 1835 as part of the grand canal link to Kilbeggan, it took 15 years to restore and is part of a larger project linking a greenway to the main line of the Grand Canal to the south; a further link to the Dublin Galway greenway has been approved.
This building was a goods warehouse for inward and outward goods and a busy location in its time.
Meandering Mind
By Dan Scally (April 1990)
There is somewhere within us all
A verse of poetry
A breath of life that will live after us
A cord with which people can play
A bond to help them find their way
Something that will remain on
As witness to our day
And make music for new generations ears
When we are dead a hundred years.
