Westmeath gardaí target mobile phone use and distracted driving today

Local Gardaí will today (Wednesday) be commencing a 'day of action' targetting mobile phone use and distracted driving.

An Garda Síochána Westmeath said members in the Roads Policing Unit will be carrying out patrols in the Westmeath Division to detect and deter any incidents of mobile phone use and/or distracted driving, as part of a nationwide day of action in this matter.

It said that if people are detected holding a mobile phone whilst driving, they will receive a fixed charge notice of a €120 fine and three penalty points.
