FAI Chiefs to meet with Oireachtas today following Israel fixture

The Joint Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport will meet with the FAI and Sport Ireland to discuss safeguarding and governance.

The meeting will take place at 12:30 in Leinster House and will see representatives from the FAI, Sport Ireland and the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport to examine the wider football system.

FAI CEO David Courell and other senior figures will answer questions from TD’s and Senators. This follows the decision to play Israel last weekend and again on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Alan Kelly said: “Tomorrow’s meeting is an important opportunity for the Committee to examine the progress reported by the FAI on safeguarding and governance, and to seek clarity on how standards are being applied across clubs, leagues and the wider football system.

“The Committee will also seek an update on the progress under the current Memorandum of Understanding between the Government and the FAI.

“The Committee will hear directly from the FAI and the Department on significant current matters, including public funding, League of Ireland academies and the FAI’s approach to its upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures and the recent match between the Republic of Ireland and Israel.”
