Sixteen homes proposed at Market Hill Ballymore

A proposed development of 16 new houses in Ballymore is progressing through pre-planning, Westmeath County Council have confirmed.

The development at Market Hill had been queried by Cllr Vinny McCormack, who said previous correspondence had referred to six units rather than 16.

He questioned whether the figure in the council’s management report was correct and whether there was sufficient housing demand in Ballymore for 16 homes.

Council officials confirmed that the proposal is for 16 houses, and that the scheme includes a sensory garden.

Andrew Macken, senior architect with the council, told councillors that the housing need identified across first, second and third preferences supported the proposed number of homes.

The project is currently going through pre-planning and is intended to reach the department for a key funding decision in the first quarter of 2027.

The project will be progressed under the new single-stage process for council housing schemes rather than the previous four-stage system.

Design documentation will be completed before the planning application is submitted.

Officials indicated that the planning application would not be submitted before Christmas.
