Mullingar Tidy Towns fundraising Flag Days this coming weekend
Mullingar Tidy Towns are holding fundraising Flag Days on Friday October 16 and Saturday October 17 when volunteers will be at various locations across Mullingar, including Buckley’s SuperValu, Dunnes Stores, the Post Office, O’Brien’s Centra and Tesco.
There will also be an information event on both days on the Market Square, where Bill Collentine, chairperson of Mullingar Tidy Towns, Graham Dowling of the Westmeath Volunteer Centre and Rosie McCormack from Westmeath Community Development will be available to answer questions and to encourage some new volunteers for Mullingar Tidy Towns. Mullingar Tidy Towns do a lot in Mullingar to keep the town clean and tidy. This of course could not happen without the help of TUS and CE Scheme participants from Westmeath Community Development, MEAG, and also Westmeath County Council, Mullingar Chamber of Commerce, local schools and community groups and various businesses.
Mullingar Tidy Towns are always available to help with events such as the St Patrick’s Day parade and when major events such as the Fleadh Cheoil are in the town.
Their many projects include a fruit garden in the Town Park, information boards and tree planting, the 1916 Monument at the Fairgreen beside the Green Bridge, which has a piece of granite from the GPO when it was damaged during the 1916 Rebellion, and there are also time capsules inside it.
If you would like to hear more about Mullingar Tidy Towns, go and have a chat with the volunteers on October 16 or 17 on the Market Square.
They would appreciate donations on the Flag Days to enable them to continue their work.
