Sibling duo Cheng² bring their ‘Hero’s Welcome’ tour to Tullynally Castle

Fairytale world of music with Cheng² at Tullynally

Tullynally Castle will be transformed by siblings Cheng² into a fairytale world soundtracked by the tones and sounds of piano and cello music this autumn.

The internationally acclaimed duo – cellist Bryan Cheng and pianist Silvie Cheng – are doing an Irish tour as part of the Music Network programme (November 12-20) and their Westmeath event is on Saturday November 14 (7.30pm).

‘A Hero’s Welcome’ is the title of their tour, and it draws together some of the great works for cello and piano, from the fairytale world of Leoš Janáček’s Pohádka and the wit and colour of Francis Poulenc’s Cello Sonata, to the passion and lyricism of Brahms’ Sonata No. 2 for Cello and Piano in F Major.

Acclaimed for their electrifying chemistry, exceptional musicianship and instinctive connection on stage, Bryan and Silvie have been making music together their entire lives. They have created cross-disciplinary concert experiences bringing classical and contemporary music together with jazz, poetry, and visual media arts.

Since they officially formed Cheng² and debuted at Carnegie Weill Recital Hall in 2011, they have established an international reputation, and performed across North America, Europe, Asia, and South Africa. Additionally, at such impressive locations as, California Centre for the Arts, Harvard University, the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, and at festivals including Ottawa Chamberfest and Toronto Summer Music Festival.

They have released four critically acclaimed albums, their most recent, ‘Portrait’, released in 2023, which was nominated for a 2024 JUNO award for classical album of the year.

A highlight of the tour is the première of ‘Sundrop’, a new work by Irish/Welsh composer Anselm McDonnell commissioned by Music Network especially for Cheng².

Music Network, Ireland’s national and touring development organisation, develop and run programmes that make high-quality music accessible to communities throughout Ireland. This tour will conclude Music Network’s touring programme for 2026.
