Free dementia workshops held in four local locations this week
A series of free dementia workshops are running across Westmeath this week to educate the community on how to create a dementia friendly environment for those who are suffering from the illness.
The workshops are run by Westmeath Community Development (WDC) in association with The Alzheimer Society of Ireland and will take place in Ballynacargy, Rochfortbridge, Moate and Athlone on November 4 and 5.
The aim is to approach dementia as a social issue for the community rather than an isolated health issue for an individual to burden on their own.
Westmeath Community Development is encouraging individuals, businesses, sporting clubs, and community organisations to come down and learn about how communities can support a dementia friendly locality.
On November 4, the workshops are at Cara Phort FRC in Ballynacargy, 10-11.30am, and at St Josephs Parish Hall in Rochfortbridge 2-3.30pm.
On November 5, the workshops are at the Carmelite Centre in Moate, 10am-11.30am, and at ACT Business Development Centre in Athlone, 2-3.30pm.
