Free forestry information evening to take place in Mullingar
Farmers and landowners in Westmeath are being invited to attend a free information evening in Mullingar this week to learn more about forestry opportunities and the financial supports available.
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), in partnership with Teagasc's Forestry Development Department, will host the 'Let's Talk Trees' event at the Mullingar Park Hotel on Thursday, November 5.
Running from 7pm to 10.30pm, the event is one of four information evenings taking place nationwide during November 2026.
The initiative aims to provide farmers and other interested members of the public with practical information about forestry, including the grants and premium payments available for planting trees.
Two short presentations from representatives of DAFM and Teagasc will outline afforestation grant and premium details, as well as explain how forestry can complement existing farm income support measures.
The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion featuring a farmer who will share their personal forestry journey, explain why they decided to plant trees and discuss how forestry operates alongside their wider farming enterprise.
Those attending will also have an opportunity to speak individually with professional forestry staff through one-to-one clinics, where they can discuss their own interests and ask questions.
Organisers say the events are free and open to everyone, offering an opportunity for farmers and landowners to explore the potential of forestry and better understand the supports available.
The Mullingar event will take place at the Mullingar Park Hotel, Dublin Road, on Thursday, November 5, from 7pm. Admission is free.
