Hospice care means so much, says Atlantic Care manager

The staff at Atlantic Care on Oliver Plunkett Street, Mullingar opened their doors last week and welcomed visitors for their hospice fundraising coffee morning.

The Mullingar branch of the home care and caregiver training provider invited people along to enjoy the chat and the treats.

Event organiser Niall Kelly explained the purpose of the initiative: “We did it last year and it was very successful. We had a good turnout and a great amount was raised. We decided we’d do it again and see if we can build on that with momentum. We are hoping to give back a bit more this year.”

There was a great array of tasty treats on offer, many baked by Noeleen Garvin, billed as the best baker in the land, and mother of Mick Garvin, regional manager, Atlantic Care Midlands.

People from the businesses in the town, particularly Oliver Plunkett Street, joined in, as Mick said: “We invited people to pop in for a cuppa, a bit of cake and a good chat, all while supporting a wonderful local cause that means so much to families across the midlands.

“We had a donation box available and all proceeds go directly to North Westmeath Hospice to support the important work they do in our community. We like to work with the other agencies around, especially ones that support the elderly out in our community.”

Mick said it was easy to get people to volunteer: “The North Westmeath Hospice is the sort of charity that everybody wants to support. There were lovely homemade treats that my mother was up all night baking, as was Sarah, they did all that because it is such a worthy charity.”
