Midlands group to mark International Uilleann Piping Day in Mullingar

Midlands Uilleann Pipers are holding a number of events in Mullingar to celebrate International Uilleann Piping Day on Saturday 7 November.

International Uilleann Piping Day is a global event organised by Na Paiibraoi Uilleann to promote the unique Irish instrument.

Midlands Uilleann Pipers are from Westmeath and neighbouring counties and meet regularly to play and learn uilleann piping.

They are holding three events on Saturay, beginning in Mullingar Library 11am-1pm with a piping recital and a ‘try the pipes’ event. It is ideal for people of any age to go along, hear and try the pipes and chat to experienced pipers. This event would be great for anyone who might be considering starting pipes, or parents of children who would like to learn.

The event continues in Smiddy’s bar (1-3pm) for a few tunes on the pipes. Later the group will play in the Greville Arms Hotel (6-8pm).

Everyone is welcome to come and listen and all traditional musicians are welcome to join in.
