Three Westmeath food and drink producers launching products at SuperValu

Westmeath has three new food and drink producers launching products in selected SuperValu stores nationwide, as part of the Food Academy Programme.

The Food Academy, now in its 12th year, is a partnership between SuperValu and the Local Enterprise Office and the only accredited producer development programme in Ireland from Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin).

Food Academy offers participants a Certificate in Food Entrepreneurship and a robust combination of mentoring, industry insights, and retail strategy.

The Westmeath businesses included are: ‘Love Food’, out of Mullingar, ‘Barbavilla Dairy’, out of Collinstown, and ‘Bonny Bó’, out of Athlone.

‘Love Food’ draws on a blend of Irish and Bengali culinary influences, developing a range of plant-based and vegetarian meals.

Created by Richard Anthony, ‘Love Food’ aims to enhance the dining experience by using locally sourced and organic ingredients.

‘Barbavilla Dairy’ is an artisan milk processing business that is dedicated to producing high-quality Mediterranean-style dairy products while also using traditional methods and sustainably sourced Irish milk.

‘Bonny Bó’ is a small family-run dairy business that was established in 2023. The Nally family oversee the entire process and ensures that it is non-homogenised, which allows the cream to naturally rise to the top.

Luke Hanlon, Managing Director of SuperValu, said: “This year’s participants will get valuable exposure to connect with shoppers and showcase their brands.

“We’ve seen firsthand how the Food Academy helps innovative food and drink businesses thrive. The exceptional quality and taste of the products year after year showcase Ireland’s incredible talent and passion.

“As the food sector evolves, the Food Academy remains at the forefront – fostering innovation, empowering entrepreneurs, and building a more resilient, sustainable industry.

“We look forward to seeing this year’s participants make their mark and continue Ireland’s rich tradition of food and drink innovation.”
