Application for 104 new homes on the Ardmore Road, Mullingar
Westmeath planners are considering an application for a new estate on the edge of Mullingar. KDM Construction Ltd, The Crescent, Boyle, Roscommon, have applied to develop 104 at the Ardmore Road.
The proposal is for 17 two-bedroom terraced homes, 50 three-bedroom terraced and semi-detached houses, 32 four-bedroom detached and semi-detached houses, one detached four-bedroom bungalow, and a block with four one-bedroom units.
The proposed site spans 3.3 hectares. The application includes a single-storey crèche, 199 car parking spaces, 232 bicycle parking spaces, and a 0.37-hectare green space, alongside private gardens and play areas.
The plans cover a sub-station, wastewater pumping station, cycle lanes, and above-and below-ground works. Access would be via the L1133 Ardmore Road.
The applicant says the proposed density is in accordance with the policy and guidance set out in the council’s sustainable residential development and compact settlements guidelines; and that it integrates with the existing residential character of the Ardmore Road area.
The planners have issued report requests to An Taisce, Irish Rail, The Heritage Council, Irish Water, and Waterways Ireland. As yet there is no submission on file.
Archaeological features close to the site include a ringfort 350m to the east, a second ring fort and a ringfort and souterrain 450m and 550m to the northeast and southeast respectively.
Council planners anticipate a decision by July 22.
