John McCauley and volunteers prepare for their 2025 work

A helping hand from Tanzanian Heavenly Homes Westmeath volunteers

The 2025 group of volunteers from Tanzanian Heavenly Homes have commenced their invaluable work in the East African country.

Last year the Mullingar-based non-profit planted 100 fruit trees in the poverty-stricken village of Mto Wa Mbu in Tanzania. Tanzanian Heavenly Homes was established in 2012 by local photographer John McCauley, who organises annual volunteer missions to the village, funded mostly through donations from the Westmeath region.

John and his team travel to Tanzania every year to help the forgotten elders and the poor. Using donations collected in Ireland the charity buys rice, maize, beans, beds and mattresses for the poor people in the community.

Volunteers spent time working at the farm preparing the land and picking fresh fruit and veg for the elders.
