Mullingar Garda Station to host annual Open Day

There will be sirens, smiles, and plenty of high-vis vests on show as Mullingar Garda Station throws open its doors to the public for a lively and family-friendly annual Open Day this Saturday, 12 July, from 11am to 3pm, with a dedicated sensory-friendly hour from 11am to 12 noon.

Locals of all ages are expected to turn up to get a behind-the-scenes look at the workings of the Gardaí, and the atmosphere that is sure to buzz from start to finish. The event, which will run from 11am to 3pm, gives visitors a chance to meet the team, explore equipment, and even sit behind the wheel of a Garda patrol car—blue lights and all.

For younger visitors, the opportunity to try on Garda hats, chat with officers, and have their fingerprints taken (voluntarily, of course!) are sure to be a big draw.

The event will showcase local and national Garda units, including the Air Support Unit, Mounted Unit, Roads Policing, Public Order Unit, and Scenes of Crime. All appearances are subject to weather and operational demands.

Community Gardaí will be on hand to chat about crime prevention, road safety, and the importance of community involvement in keeping Mullingar safe. There will also be a display from the Armed Response Unit and a peek inside the custody suite—minus any real suspects.

Visitors will have the chance to tour the station, enjoy free face painting for children, and avail of complimentary refreshments throughout the day.
