Tractor girls raise thousands for Motor Neuron Disease
The Tractor Girls rolled into Mullingar on Thursday last as part of a trip which covered a thousand miles across the UK and Ireland on vintage tractors to raise money for the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Research Foundation (IMNDRF).Local ladies Carol, Helen, Claire and Louise Moore from Sion Hill, Killucan drove from John O'Groats to Land's End, and onto Galway, through Mullingar into Cooley and then down in time to join the Fingal Vintage Rally on Sunday last, which marked the end of the journey. They were part of a ten-strong team from England, Scotland and Wales who were also fundraising.Travelling at a maximum speed of 15 miles per hour, the girls took 16 days to complete the trip, and would like to extend a big "Thank you" to all those who supported them in their cause. While final figures on how much the girls raised will be totted up in the next few days, Louise Moore told the Westmeath Examiner how worthwhile the entire trip was:"I have to say the whole trip was brilliant. We owe a lot of gratitude to the vintage clubs who helped us out throughout the country," said Louise Moore. "They made donations en route and accompanied us along the way. Loads of people turned out on the streets to welcome us to the different areas, so it was very worthwhile to raise funds for a organisation we are all passionate about," she said.To contact the girls, return sponsorship cards or donate money to the IMNDRF, visit the Tractor Girls 2010 webpage at www.tg2010.com
