Inaugural GOAL Mile in Castlepollard Town Park
The inaugural GOAL Mile took place in Castlepollard on Sunday. The event was held in Castlepollard Town Park, which officially opened at the end of the summer and provided a fresh and welcoming venue for the occasion.
Speaking at the event, Niamh Morgan, chairperson of North Westmeath Athletic Club, said the committee were delighted to bring the GOAL Mile to the new location for the first time. Permission was granted by Westmeath County Council to host the event, allowing organisers to raise funds for the international humanitarian charity GOAL, while also promoting the work of the North Westmeath AC.
The walk attracted a steady flow of participants between 10am and noon to complete two laps of the town park. Donations were collected online and in person, and more than €500 had been raised online by midday, to be added to the generous contributions recorded in the donation bucket on the day.
Niamh paid tribute to the committee and volunteers for their efforts in organising the event, noting that while small, the club benefit from strong support and commitment. She also expressed sincere thanks to the Castlepollard community for coming out in such numbers to support a worthy cause.
The successful first staging of the GOAL Mile in Castlepollard highlighted both the value of the new town park as a community space and the continued generosity of local people in supporting charitable initiatives.
