Burke pushes case for Ireland with business leaders at Davos
Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke, TD, is looking forward to a busy day of engagements in Davos, Switzerland, as he enters day three of the World Economic Forum.
Throughout the day, Minister Burke will take part in a number of panel discussions on industrial and enterprise policy issues, in addition to holding 12 bilateral meetings with CEOs and CFOs of major international companies currently investing in, or considering investment in, Ireland.
Later this evening, the minister will also attend an IDA Ireland reception, bringing together senior C-suite executives whose companies collectively employ approximately 50,000 people across Ireland.
Speaking from Davos, Minister Burke said: “It’s been an extremely busy and productive week so far – we have a packed schedule of meetings with global business leaders, EU partners and international counterparts.
“These engagements are about ensuring Ireland’s voice is heard and that we continue to actively promote Ireland as a competitive, stable and forward-looking place to do business.”
The minister also highlighted the importance of broader international engagement alongside business meetings. “Outside of my engagements with business leaders, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with senior figures in the United States, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Bank of America vice-chair Paul Donofrio,” he said.
“These discussions have focused on the strength of the trade and business relationship between Ireland and the US, and on reinforcing Ireland’s position as a trusted partner in an increasingly competitive global environment.
“Davos provides a unique opportunity to have many of these important conversations in a short space of time. Every meeting helps to strengthen Ireland’s value proposition, protect existing jobs, and position the country to attract future investment that supports sustainable economic growth.”
