Mullingar Rugby Club celebrate year of progress at annual ball

There was a real feel-good factor at the Mullingar Park Hotel on Sunday as the Mullingar Rugby Club celebrated another year of progress at the annual club ball. There were 260 people in attendance on the evening, making for a memorable occasion.

Special guest Simon Zebo said Mullingar Rugby Club has a reputation as one of the standout and most enthusiastic rugby clubs in the country and he was delighted to be at the event.

Sports journalist Brendan Fanning, who carried out interviews on stage, said Mullingar has “one of the best facilities and club cultures” he has come across in Ireland. Brendan was at the club a few weeks ago to meet TY students who are studying journalism and he was clearly very impressed with what he saw. Ciaran Murtagh, club president, said it was a great occasion following on from last year’s centenary event.

“It is an important night to recognise the contribution of the coaches, parents and players. It has been a successful year in that we have excceeded our targets on membership growth again, and we are the biggest club in Leinster for player numbers,” he remarked.

The club is extremely grateful for the tireless work of its volunteers which has been a major factor in the development of such fine facilities, and the strong community spirit which exists in the club.

The facilities at the club are outstanding and on a recent Saturday, they could host 12 games and still cater for their underage coaching, which shows the impressive progress they have made. Their all-weather surfaces are constantly in demand.

“The club depends so much on the volunteers and it is important to recognise their valuable contribution. We are also indebted to our sponsors and the small committee who organised this year’s ball,” added Ciaran.
