Swedish ambassador to visit Mullingar
Swedish Ambassador, Lina van der Weyden, will visit Mullingar next Monday (May 11) 2026 as part of the Blue Star Programme and in recognition of Europe Day 2026.
Minister for Enterprise, Tourism, and Employment, Peter Burke, said: “I am delighted to welcome her Excellency Lina Van der Weyden to Westmeath to mark this important occasion and to highlight the importance of our membership of the EU and the benefits we enjoy from this membership."
Minister Burke said the visit continues a tradition: “We have had very successful visits to schools all across the constituency in recent years and it is always an enjoyable engagement with great questions and genuine interest from the students.
"The students taking part in the Blue Star programme take on different projects and learn about Europe and our EU neighbours across the continent that gives them an insight into our different cultures, traditions and languages."
Minister Burke said the visit is at an opportune time: "It's a great opportunity to focus on our role in Europe with the upcoming Presidency of the EU coming in July. Our county has been twinned with Sweden, making this visit particularly important."
The scheduled engagement will include a visit to St Tola’s NS in Delvin, Co Westmeath followed by a visit to Scoil Mhuire CBS, Mullingar.
