Gone in 30 minutes

Cusack Park Showdown with Cavan sold out in half an hour.

Tickets for the highly anticipated Round One of the All Ireland Senior Football Championship tickets went on sale earlier today at 12pm.

11,500 tickets were available for the match that will see Leinster champions Westmeath face off against Cavan on Saturday, 30 May.

By 12:30 they were completely sold out, according to Head of Operations at Westmeath GAA, Pat Doherty.

“Yeah that’s capacity,” he said.

“In some ways we’re delighted but in other ways it’s causing headaches because of the demand.

While there has been question of whether the stadium will be changed to allot for more attendees, Pat has clarified that the game will remain at Mullingars Cusack Park.

He and others at Westmeath GAA are delighted to see such a strong turnout and the level of support they have received.

“We’d never have envisaged selling out a game here, we haven’t done it in years upon years.

“It’s an indication of where we’re at and how good winning the Leinster Championship has been so great it’s absolutely super.”

Pat also commented on the speed at which the tickets were snapped up.

“They were released on ticketmaster at 12 noon.

“I don’t think they sold out in under five minutes but I suppose it depended on the ability of the ticket master system to take customers.

“I personally got a text from someone at 20 past 12 saying they couldn’t get tickets but about 30 seconds later he said he was after getting them.

“They probably didn’t actually sell out in five minutes but they certainly sold out in half an hour.”

Ticketmaster are not the only ones who are out of tickets, Buckley’s Supervalu in Mullingar also announced on their Facebook that they too have sold out.

In the lead up to the match the Leinster Champions will host an open training session at Cusack Park at 11:30 am, May 24.
