Summer tag rugby league off to flying start
Mullingar RFC's local summer tag rugby league got under way last Thursday, June 4, following three successful weeks of social tag sessions designed to introduce new players and teams to the game.
The social programme proved a great success, attracting plenty of newcomers and helping teams prepare for the league campaign.
There are eight teams competing this year. Among the new entrants are workplace teams from Elverys and Lilliput Adventure Centre, adding fresh competition to the league.
They join some of the competition's long-established favourites, including Wilson's, For Ruck Sake and Rugrats, while returning team How I Tagged Your Mother is also back after a hiatus for another summer of tag rugby action.
The league will continue for another four Thursday nights, as teams battle for a place in the final, which is scheduled for Friday July 11.
Running earlier this summer has allowed more people to take part before GAA reaches its busiest period. Summer tag rugby continues to be a fantastic way for people to stay active and social during the warmer months.
With many students home from college and others moving to Mullingar for work, the league provides an ideal opportunity to meet new people, make friends, and become part of the local community while enjoying a fun and fast-paced sport.
While it’s too late to enter a team, new players are welcomed, as teams can always benefit from a few extra bodies. Four matches take place each Thursday at Mullingar RFC between 7.15 and 9pm.
