Mergon marks 45 years of success in Castlepollard
Mergon proudly celebrated its 45th anniversary on Monday June 1 with a special event in Castlepollard, bringing together employees, families, friends, and members of the local community to recognise the company’s journey and achievements and thank all those who have played a part.
Founded in 1981, Mergon has grown from a small local business into a global leader in design, manufacturing, and technology solutions, employing more than 1,200 people in Ireland, the UK, Czechia, US and Mexico.
Despite its international footprint, the company has remained rooted in its Westmeath origins, and Castlepollard continues to play a central role.
The anniversary celebration was a fitting reflection of Mergon’s strong community ties. Residents of Water Street added to the festive atmosphere by decorating the street and erecting a congratulatory banner in honour of the milestone, an effort that was greatly appreciated.
The event was attended by founder and retired CEO Pat Beirne and his family, whose presence underscored the legacy and continuity of Mergon’s values. Guests also heard from CEO Aoife Beirne, Pat’s daughter, who delivered a heartfelt speech reflecting on the company’s progress, its people, and its future ambitions.
She acknowledged the contribution of past and present employees and emphasised Mergon’s continued commitment to community.
Guests enjoyed food, drink, magic tricks, music and festival games. A special appearance was made by the Mullingar Town Band, whose performance added to the celebratory spirit of the occasion.
Speaking about the event, Martin Flood, general manager at Mergon, described it as “a proud and memorable day for Mergon, bringing together the people and community who have been central to our success over the past 45 years”.
The celebration marked the significant milestone in Mergon’s history, and also reinforced its enduring connection to Castlepollard and its commitment to building a strong future for its people and the wider community.
