Roscommon Credit Union and North Midlands Credit Union - Proposed Transfer Of Engagements
As previously advised to members at each credit union’s annual general meeting last December, Roscommon Credit Union and North Midlands Credit Union confirm that discussions regarding a Transfer of Engagements have progressed positively.
A statement from NMCU says that the proposed transfer of Roscommon Credit Union into North Midlands Credit Union will create a stronger, combined organisation, enhancing stability and enabling the expansion of services across the enlarged common bond.
Both boards and staff are fully supportive of this proposed transfer and will present it to members for approval at special general meetings (SGMs) in August 2026.
If approved, the proposed combined credit union will serve some 86,000 members and will have an asset size of over €600 million.
Member Benefits
Members of both credit unions are encouraged to come along to their respective SGMs in August and have their say. By voting in favour of the proposal, members will benefit from a stronger, combined credit union and a wider range of services.
• After the transfer of engagements, members will have access to 10 branches across Counties Roscommon, Westmeath, Cavan and Longford, making it easier for them to transact where it suits them best.
• A larger, stronger Credit Union will be better placed to invest in new technology, improving and enhancing our digital services for a better overall member experience.
• The combined Credit Union will continue to support and grow community initiatives such as Community Support Funds, the Credit Union Schools Quiz, the Clued In Programme, Art Competition, and many others.
In particular, Roscommon Credit Union members will immediately benefit from:
• Lower standard variable loan rates, along with access to a range of discounted lending options.
• An expanded branch network, making it easier to access services locally.
Higher loan limits (up to €400,000 for mortgages and €100,000 for personal loans) and a wider choice of loan products, including Cultivate, Greenify and Credit Union Mortgage loans.
• Access to Current Accounts and all of the associated features, including a debit card, overdraft facility (subject to approval) and enhanced online banking.
• Discounted Home Insurance products.
Roscommon Credit Union – Member Information Meeting
Members of Roscommon Credit Union may have questions or want to learn more about the proposed transfer, and, to help with that, there is a member information meeting for members of Roscommon Credit Union on Monda, 13 July at 7.30pm in the Credit Union Office in Abbey Street, Roscommon and online via a live meeting link.
The meeting will provide an opportunity to learn more about the proposal and to ask any questions.
To register for the meeting, members can email ceo@roscommoncu.ie or call in to any Roscommon Credit Union branch in Roscommon, Ballaghaderreen or Strokestown, telephone their local branch, or visit www.roscommoncu.ie for further details.
North Midlands Credit Union – Member Information
For members of North Midlands Credit Union, there will be little day-to-day change following the proposed transfer. They can continue to enjoy the same familiar services and support, with the added benefit of access to an expanded branch network.
People may still have questions or would like more information, and can get in touch by emailing toe@northmidlandscreditunion.ie with queries, or call in to their local branch.
Next Steps
Both Credit Unions are fully committed to ensuring that members have the final say on this proposal.
Detailed information, in the form of a Section 130 Notice, will be shared with all members in advance of the special general meetings on 19 August. The proposal will also require approval from the Central Bank of Ireland before the SGMs can proceed.
Subject to member approval, it is anticipated that the transfer will be completed in mid-September 2026, allowing members to begin benefitting from the enhanced services and a stronger combined credit union without delay.
Business as Usual
Throughout the process, it will be business as usual. There will be no impact on day-to-day services, and the CU teams remain fully committed to delivering the high standard of service members know and trust.
This proposal represents a positive step forward for both Credit Unions and their members, helping to strengthen services, expand access, and build for the future. Members are encouraged to attend the special general meetings, have their say, and take part in the decision-making process.
“We look forward to moving ahead together and thank you, as always, for your continued trust and support.”
