Kilbeggan Pitch and Putt host Junior National Strokeplay Championship

Kilbeggan Pitch and Putt Club will take centre stage on Saturday, August 8, when it hosts the Gents Junior National Strokeplay Championship, one of the most prestigious events on the national pitch and putt calendar.

The honour of staging the championship was awarded by the National Executive Committee (NEC), and it marks a proud milestone for the Westmeath club. Months of preparation have ensured the course is presented in immaculate condition, with competitors set to face a true test of skill over the demanding 54-hole championship.

Interest in the event has been high, with players from across the country taking the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the Kilbeggan layout in recent weeks. A field of 80 competitors will contest the championship, with 40 players teeing off from 8.30am and the remaining 40 beginning at 12.30pm. The leading 20 players will then qualify for the final 18-hole round, scheduled to commence at approximately 5.30pm, where the national title will be decided.

Kilbeggan will have two local representatives hoping to make home advantage count. Long-serving club member Michael Cunningham tees off at 9.25am, while recent club recruit Lee Stynes begins his challenge at 9.40am.

Westmeath will also be represented by Raymond Fay of Collinstown, along with the Custume trio of Danny Molloy, Danny Malone and Tommy Lacey. All five players possess the talent and experience to challenge for the honours.

The club extends a warm welcome to all players, officials and supporters and looks forward to showcasing its excellent course and facilities on what promises to be a memorable day of championship pitch and putt.
