Need for OPDs and two-bed houses in Clonmellon, Delvin

The need for old persons dwellings and two- and four-bedroom houses in Clonmellon and Delvin was highlighted by Cllr David Jones at the monthly meeting of Westmeath County Council.

He asked if the pre-planning meeting for seven old persons dwellings in Clonmellon had taken place, and he called on the council to develop land they have for housing in Delvin.

He was told that the OPDs for Clonmellon are progressing at planning level. The council will look at the sites in Delvin and assess the need in the area.

Cllr Jones also expressed his disappointment that progress had not been made on proposed traffic calming measures for Delvin and Clonmellon. He hoped that there would be progress by the next meeting.

Cllr Alfie Devine felt that Castlepollard was being left behind in the provision of traffic calming measures. He said that speed on the approach roads to Castlepollard is a problem.

Chief executive, Barry Kehoe, said the council had funding for traffic calming in the smaller towns and villages in its annual budget. He said he would refer the matter to the transport department.
