This year’s event was on Saturday week last, September 5, at Montgomery’s Bar Beer Garden on Dominick Street, Mullingar.
Minister Troy said: “It really was a fantastic evening, a great positive atmosphere – there was a great sense of community and a great sense of generosity of spirit.”
The generosity he refers to was in the people who were there on the night, and also to the business owners who supported the event, he said. They included Buckley’s SuperValu, Wines Direct, Bill and Teresa Collentine, Wholesome Kitchen for the desserts, and Barry Montgomery of this year’s host venue, Montgomery’s Whiskey Bar – the BBQ was in their beer garden.
Minister Troy also thanked: “Irene and Brian McGowan for their work in cooking, and the volunteers from the Carers Association and North Westmeath Hospice, who ensured that everybody was well looked after.
“It really was a fantastic night and I’m delighted to have run it again this year, and I thank everybody for their generosity, for turning up, for their support, and we’ll be back in a short while with the overall amount that was raised.”
The charities that will benefit are Family Carers Ireland and North Westmeath Hospice, and support will also be provided to a number of other local charities, said the minister of state.
He was also delighted to have his colleague James Browne, Wexford TD, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, as guest at the fundraiser.
