Westmeath enjoys a vibrant Culture Night 2026

Westmeath is alive for Culture Night 2026, with a wide range of free events continuing across the county celebrating music, art, poetry, creativity and local culture.

One of the highlights in Mullingar will be Imagining Common Grounds, the flagship event organised by the Westmeath County Council Arts Office. The event will officially launch the county’s Culture Night programme and celebrate Ireland’s upcoming Council of the EU Presidency.

Taking place in Market Square from 7.45pm, the evening features a live performance from Mullingar singer-songwriter Peter Doran alongside Blasta Brass.

There was opportunities for people to get creative themselves, including Pause, a creative art journal workshop hosted by Deirdre Clogher Art from 5pm to 7pm.

Families can also take part in the Art Box Mosaic Workshop, where children and adults can work together to create their own mosaic artwork.

Athlone will also have plenty on offer, with Abbey Road Artist Studios opening their doors from 6pm to 9pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to see artists at work and view an exhibition by the Athlone Photographic Society.

Poetry and storytelling will take centre stage in Athlone, with writers Jackie Gorman, Keith Payne and Catherine Prasifka taking part in a series of pop-up sessions around the town.

With events taking place throughout the county, Culture Night offers an opportunity for people to experience Westmeath’s creative community – all completely free of charge.
