Rail Theatre play in aid of Special Olympics

Rail Theatre return with the hilarious Neil Simon farce "The Last of The Red Hot Lovers" to the Mullingar Arts Centre on Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4, with the proceeds from the Friday night going to the Special Olympics fund. This is an opportunity for those who missed the production the first time around to catch the comedy while at the same time helping the Special Olympics athletes. The play centres around Barney (played by Aidan Ennis), a restaurateur who is going through a midlife crisis. After 17 years of marriage Barney is looking for some extra marital activity but is not really sure if that is what he really wants as he battles with his conscience. His first attempt is with a customer at his restaurant, an American lady called Elaine (played by Orla Duffy) who is hardly what you would call a wallflower. Elaine is feisty and forward and when she meets Barney at his mother"s apartment, where all the action (or lack of) is set, she leaves him in no doubt as to her intentions.Next to visit the attempted Lothario"s boudoir is the free-spirited, struggling actress and hippy, Bobbie Michelle (Fionnuala Kenny) whom he meets in the park and loans money to attend an audition. Finally he tries to woo his friend Jeanette who is pals with his wife. Jeanette"s husband has just admitted an affair and she sees this as the perfect opportunity for revenge. Will Barney finally take the step and have the affair? See for yourself when the play returns to the Mullingar Arts Centre.Tickets for April 3 are priced at €20 and are available at the Arts Centre Box Office on Mount Street, Mullingar or by ringing 044 9347777.
