Kinnegad notes

Danny Mooney has won a colleges Junior All Ireland medal with Athlone IT as the beat Jordanstown in a college`s final during the week.

Danny, who scored two points, was also nominated as Player of the Year this year in Athlone I.T.  He was one of only three Westmeath men on the team for this historic achievement for the Institute of Technology.  Studying Accounting in Athlone, Danny has been congratulated by his proud parents Eamonn (Kinnegad Club Chairman) and Caroline Mooney of the Trim Road in Kinnegad.

His uncle Christy and many other family members were speaking this week of the wonderful honour this is for Kinnegad to have an All Ireland Champion. This has given great encouragement to other young players from the Coralstown Kinnegad Club that they can also excel on other stages. Well done Danny!

After Amie Giles of Kinnegad took her first national title in winning the girls under 16 Athletics last week this represents Kinnegad`s second All Ireland medal in a week, certainly unprecedented in the recent past.

Community Games Basketball teams are County Champions

The Under 13 boys played Tubberclair/Glasson and were victorious with a 25 - 24 win. It was a closely contested match which sees this young team through to Leinster.

The U16 girls showed great skill and determination with their win over their opposition - Tubberclair/Glasson. The final score was 28 -12 and this secures the Coralstown/Kinnegad Community Games U16 Girls a place in the next round.

The U16 boys were due to play the Basketball County Finals on Wednesday but this was postponed until next week. The U13 Girls played their County Final Basketball game on the 13th of March against Multyfarnham. It was a highly charged game and the U13 Girls were unfortunate to lose out on the night. The final score was 15-18. Kinnegad  wishes Multyfarnham success in the next stage of the competition.

Coralstown/Kinnegad did very well on the day with Adam Jones U8 and Jill Leavy U14 securing a place in the National Finals in Mosney on Saturday 24th of May. Well done to the budding artists and to other medal winners - Pierce Donnelly 2nd place U14 and Emily Cassidy 4th place U8.

There were over 20 teams on the night and Coralstown/Kinnegad were represented by Ciara Fogarty, Fiona Creamer, Vinóg Leavy, Pierce Donnelly and Christopher Doyle. Unfortunately Kinnegad`s score on the night wasn`t enough to secure a place at the National Finals, with only one team going forward to Mosney. Nevertheless, our team did extremely well with a score just a few points behind the winning team.
