Bachelor Festival and Delvin parade funded
Allocations of up to €10,000 have been made to 13 groups in the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad under round two of the Festival and Events programme.
The allocations were unanimously approved at the monthly meeting on the proposal of Cllr Denis Leonard, seconded by Cllr John Shaw.
The biggest allocation is €10,000 to Mullingar Chamber of Commerce for WinterFest 2022, which will showcase all festive offerings and various attractions available in Mullingar and will be held in the town park from November 24 to January 5.
The Westmeath Bachelor Festival is to receive another €5,000 on top of monies received in round one of the allocations. The St Patrick’s Day Parade has also been approved for a top up allocation of €1,000.
Castlepollard ICA has been awarded €1,500 for a Hello and Welcome Ukrainians event in September in the local community centre. They are inviting all groups to set up a table to promote their activities. There will be finger food, music and dancing and a free raffle. They expect 200 will attend.
Mullingar Choral Society have been awarded €1,500 for their Christmas Festival in the Cathedral of Christ the King on December 11, where 1,000 guests are expected.
An allocation of €1,000 has been made to the Irish Trout Fly Fishing (Youths) for an international event on Lough Lene, Collinstown later this month. Teams from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales will compete.
Mullingar Harriers Athletic Club has been awarded €1,000 for the Mullingar 10, a road race at Dalystown, on Sunday last, July 24.
The Westmeath Traveller Project has been allocated €750 towards their Traveller Pride event at Grange Resource Centre, Mullingar, which was on Friday last, July 22 (see photos and report on page 14 of this week’s Examiner; and here).
The organisers had a wagon and a tent, a tinsmith demonstrating the Traveller tradition of tin craft. There was a display of old photographs and Traveller sports, art created by young Traveller girls, and lots of fun.
A similar allocation has been made to the Music Generation Offaly Westmeath for SingFest at either Belvedere House and Gardens or TUS, Athlone in the autumn.
North Westmeath Athletics Club has been awarded €500 for the Tullynally 5k challenge on Wednesday August 17, from Castlepollard to Tullynally Castle and back.
Lakeside Wheelers Cycling Club has been awarded the same amount for the Mullingar Grand Prix cycling event, which took place on Sunday July 17 last.
The Irish Midland Youth Orchestra has been awarded €500 for a collaborative concert in All Saints Church, Mullingar, in December.
Thomastown Royal Canal Amenity Group has been granted €500 for a family fun day at Thomastown Harbour on August 28.
