The late Pearse McCormack

The McCormack family is mourning the death of beloved father and husband Pearse who passed away suddenly at Mullingar Hospital on June 10. Pearse and his wife Jenny had been settled at Hiskenstown for the last 30 years and he was actually a native of the Coole area. Both Pearse's parents and grandparents were National School teachers and his mother and father taught at Newtown House. Pearse, who was born in 1920, didn't follow in his parents footsteps and instead left Ireland in 1936 and worked in the pub trade in Manchester and in London where he braved the blitz.Pearse met Jenny and moved back to Ireland in 1965 but returned to London in 1967 where he remained until 1980 when he returned again and settled in Delvin. The couple had four children; eldest son Tommy, twins Gerry and John and daughter Phil.Pearse had a life-long involvement with the Legion of Mary and was one of the founder members of the Wesmeath Association in London. Pearse had a great love for swimming and he often travelled into Mullingar to use the baths. His other hobby was the horses and he was a keen pundit of national racing.Pearse will be sadly missed by his loving wife Jenny, his sosn, daughter, daughters-in-law Susan and Bernadette, grandchilderen, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.Pearse funeral mass was celebrated by Father Seamus Heaney and by his nephew Father Eddie Rogan at Killulagh Church before his burial at teh adjoining cemetery.
