Winterfest Mullingar launches tomorrow

Winterfest Mullingar, a new six week festival featuring an ice skating rink, Mullingar on Ice, will launch in Mullingar Town Park tomorrow, Thursday, at 2pm!

Winterfest Mullingar will get underway on November 23 and will run until January 6 and will encompass the annual three-day Mullingar Christmas Market, running from Thursday December 6 – Sunday December 9.

The festival will transform Mullingar Town Park into a winter wonderland and aims to make Mullingar the destination town for families this Christmas.

It draws together the various different events happening around the town throughout the Christmas period, and will have the added extra of a full-scale ice skating rink, to be set up in the town park.

It’s expected to attract around 25,000 visitors and €2 million in revenue to Mullingar; in addition, 30 part-time jobs will be created for the duration of the festival.

Full details of this exciting event will be announced at a launch for Winterfest Mullingar 2018 on Thursday September 27 in Mullingar Town Park at 2pm.

“We are really excited about this and the Chamber feels it will be a massive boost for the town," says John Keane, PRO of Mullingar Chamber of Commerce.

He stresses, however, that the success of the market will lie in the community supporting the venture.

“We’re hoping to gather all the events that usually take place around Mullingar during Christmas under the one umbrella.”

The three-day Christmas Market which has enjoyed great success on Mount Street for a number of years will now move to the Town Park, while the music on the Market Square on Christmas Eve, the annual Christmas Day swim, and the events at Belvedere including the craft fair, will all now come under the six-week winter festival banner.

“We envisage work nights out being held during the festival, which will in turn support the local publicans, restaurateurs and hoteliers. We're aiming to attract people from right across the midlands,” John continues.

“We’re hoping to turn this into an annual event, so we’re are looking to hear from all producers, artists, and anyone in the community who wishes to get involved or sponsor the event,” John said.
