A further candidate has been selected to run for a seat in the Mullingar Kilbeggan area in the 2014 local election – Sorca Clarke, for Sinn Féin.

Ms Clarke ran for Mullingar Town Council and in Mullingar West in the 2009 local election. She lives in Mullingar.

“I will work to represent the people of Mullingar-Kilbeggan and their issues to the best of my ability,” said Sorca following her selection last Wednesday night.

“My aim is to continue working with people to identify their needs in terms of facilities and amenities to create a more well equipped and inclusive community for all.

“We will lobby for the county to be given equal and fair opportunity in terms of available investment, something that is absent.

“I would also see a big part of my role will be to continue to lobby for Mullingar-Kilbeggan to be treated fairly in terms of jobs and enterprise investment. I believe that we are not receiving our fair share of investment in comparison to other counties; government policies and strategies are major contributors to this failure and it must be challenged.”
