Disabilityolder persons informations day a resounding success

Hundreds turned out to the Disability/Older Persons information day in the Mullingar Park Hotel today.

Organised by Westmeath Community Development in conjunction with Westmeath County Council, over 37 services providers were on hand to answer questions, including the Samaritans, the Migrants Association, Westmeath Volunteer Centre, and Westmeath Fire Service who were giving out free smoke alarms, while a local chemist provided free blood pressure checks.

Linda Jo Quinn of Westmeath Community Development said it’s a fantastic example of how two organisations can work together for the betterment of the people in our community.

"The two target groups are people with disabilities and older people but we have had schools here today as well and there’s people still coming in the door. We opened the doors at twelve o’clock here today and its still buzzing. We are absolutely delighted with the turn out of the event."
