Lough lene gaels to host brendan shine in concert

There’s a lovely treat in store for people of all ages in North Westmeath next weekend with the visit of Brendan Shine to the Hotel Castlepollard.

It’s another musical initiative from Lough Lene Gaels Hurling and Camogie Clubs, who continue to bring the best in entertainment to the area every year.

Fresh from his recent performance on the Late Late Show and before he embarks on a nationwide tour in June, Brendan and his band will once again capture the hearts of many of his fans in North Westmeath and up into Co Meath, as he performs his rich mix of traditional music, songs and stories.

His famous 'Catch Me If You Can’ will resonate with people right across rural Ireland who remember the days of matchmaking and trips to Lisdoonvarna in the month of September, when all the farm work was done.

His version of 'Do You Want Your Auld Lobby Washed Down Con Shine’ will have people singing it in their kitchens and around their farmyards for weeks to come. With his accordion hanging from his shoulders like no other, Brendan represents what’s good and wholesome about Irish music at a time when this kind of music is in danger of dying.

His band, which includes his daughter, is made up of experienced musicians who know what country people like and enjoy.

The concert, which commences with a local band, Celtic Chique, is organised by Lough Lene Gaels Hurling and Camogie Clubs to encourage the participation of people in the area in Irish music and culture, and to raise funds to continue the improvement of facilities at its playing fields in Collinstown.

Previous bands which have played for the club have included The High Kings (twice), The Wolfe Tones and Mike Denver.
