Gale warning is in effect

If you are taking part in the Dublin City Marathon today, or are out and about this October bank holiday Monday, be aware that Met Eireann has issued a weather advisory for Dublin, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford.

"Southern parts of Munster and Leinster are likely to have rainfall accumulations of 25-45mm during Monday. Southern and eastern coasts will be subject to strong, southeasterly winds throughout the day also. Consequently, during periods of high tide, these winds may give rise to coastal overtopping," said Met Éireann.

This afternoon, a band of rain will slowly move in from the west bringing further persistent and widespread rain through the evening.

Highest temperatures will range from 12 to 15 degrees. Fresh to strong and gusty southeasterly winds with gale gusts along southern and eastern coasts will gradually decrease moderate to fresh in the late evening.

Persistent rain is scheduled for tonight and will continue in most areas with some further heavy falls in places.

Lowest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees in moderate to fresh easterly or southeasterly winds.

This very unsettled weather will continue for most of tomorrow, Tuesday, until night fall when it is due to turn colder, between 3 - 10 degrees.

According to Met Éireann, it is to continue unsettled with wet and windy periods for Thursday and Friday as nearby Atlantic depressions are indicated to direct more rain bands across the country.
