James Craig as Phantom of the Opera that opens tonight!

Phantom opens tonight!

Tonight, Monday March 28, is opening night for the Mullingar Student Players’ production of Phantom of the Opera!

Running until Sunday April 3, a cast of 40 will bring Andrew Lloyd Webber’s dark, poignant and, at times, menacing score to life, and where better than the atmospheric venue that is the grand Mullingar Arts Centre.

Combining musical theatre and ballet, the legendary tale of the mysterious Phantom, who far beneath the majesty and splendour of the Paris Opera House, lives a shadowy existence.

Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, can the love he holds for his beautiful student Christine, save him?

James Craig and Laura Allen, both of whom received High Achiever Awards from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, star as Phantom and Christine.

Other cast members include: Niamh Hughes, Ella Scally, Ursula Maher, Meghan Ayres, Orlaith Murray, Conor Leavy, Zoe Collins, Simon Broderick, Shane Bardon, Daniel Allen, Zara Fitzgerald, Ailbhe Mulvihill, Nathan Daly, Paul Swaine, Anna Doolin, Daniel Cox, Kieran Monaghan, Eoin Hogan and Adam O’Connor.

Prepare to be dazzled as the over-sized chandelier hangs perilously over the audience near the orchestra pit, ready for the masked genius to engineer one of the show’s best-known dramatic moments!

A special thanks has been extended to Liam Hughes for the creation of the elephant that also makes its theatre debut. Director Sean Lynch has assured us that the elephant will not be walking the streets Mullingar or giving cause to protests as others of the species have recently!

With enchanting music from musical director Niamh O’Shea including Music Of The Night, All I Ask Of You, Think Of Me, The Point Of No Return, Masquerade, Angel Of Music, Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, The Phantom Of The Opera and haunting choreography from Aimee McManus, this promises to be another spectacular production from the Mullingar Student Players.

The Phantom of the Opera is currently running in the Mullingar Arts Centre until Sunday, April 3rd. Tickets are available from the box office by calling 044-934-7777 or online from www.mullingarartscentre.ie.
