The death has occurred of Very Reverend Joseph Gleeson, PE Skryne, Meath/ Tara.

A native of Kilcormac parish, Fr Joseph Gleeson was born in September 1931.

He was educated at St Finian's, Mullingar and St Patrick's Seminary, Maynooth and was ordained on 22 June, 1958.

He was on loan to the Diocese of Ossory, where he served as curate in St Mary's Cathedral, Kilkenny from 1958 to 1965.

He then served as curate in Tullamore, 1965-1976, and Laytown in January 1977.

During his time there the new church was built and in September 1986, when Laytown was established as a new parish with Mornington, he was appointed as administrator in Laytown/ Bettystown/ Mornington 1986-1987.

Fr Gleeson was appointed parish priest of Skyrne/ Rathfeigh in 1987 and retired in 2006.

Funeral arrangements:
Reposing at the Church of The Immaculate Conception, Rathfeigh from 2pm to 6.30pm this Tuesday August 16, with removal same evening to St Colmcille's Church, Skryne, arriving at 7.30pm.

Requiem Mass this Wednesday at noon with burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery.
