County Board to rule on objected transfers

At a meeting of the County Committee, delegates heard that more than a dozen players had sought moves from the existing club this year.

Brothers Oscar and Gareth O'Sullivan sought a transfer from Bunbrosna to Mullingar Shamrocks.

Mullingar Shamrocks delegate, Terry O'Dowd said it is the brothers last year at minor level. They have not played for three years and this is the second time they sought the move.

Eddie Newman, Bunbrosna said they were hoping the brothers would change their minds.

Corey Doherty applied to join St. Lomans from Bunbrosna.

Mr. Newman said the player is a regular member of the minor panel. He confirmed that Corey lives in Mullingar.

When the request of Robert Landers, who applied to join Turin from Crookedwood, Crookedwood delegate Feichin Brennan remarked that he he could not see the player getting much hurling in Turin.

Turin's Richie Heffernan advised the meeting that the club intends to field an Under 14 team this year.

The transfer of Eoin Connell from Bunbrosna to Ballynacargy was also objected to.

Mr. Newman said the team was weakened by a number of transfers last year.

Tommy Reilly, Ballynacargy said the player approached the club. "We were told he was not getting much football"

The meeting heard that his cousin, Pauric Molloy was seeking a similar move.

Castletown-Geoghegan objected to a transfer by Christy Maloney for a move to Fr. Daltons. Eammon Clarke said Castletown would not like to lose him and the club would talk to the player.

Donie Glynn, Southern Gaels told the delegates the players has said he is not going to play for Castletown this year.

Adam Duffy found his planned move from Shandonagh to Bunbrosna also blocked.

Confirming the approach, Mr. Newman said the player wants to join Bun.

Tom Smyth said Shandonagh cannot afford to lose players.

The transfer of Daragh O'Connor from Bunbrosna to Multyfarnham also found opposition.

Mr. Newman said the player played with Bun last year and then went and trained with Multyfarnham. "We need him to make up the numbers".

Peter Keaney, Multyfarnham said the player had approached the club.

Adam Gaffney sought a move away from Shandonagh to St. Lomans

Tom Smyth accepted the player did not get much football last year but added there will be plenty of football for him this year.

Gerry Walsh, St. Lomans said the player has a friend who plays with St. Lomans.

For the second year running Charlie McMickin sought a move from Garrycastle to Athlone.

Speaking on the application, Athlone's Niall Lynch spoke of his disappointment at Garrycastle's attitude. "The player wants to get back to Athlone. He was refused last year but is back again." He said the young man's parents have tried to meet with Garrycastle over the matter.

"He lives within walking distance of the Athlone pitch. He is not being allowed to play football. Surely we are not going to stop him playing football"

Bernard Brannigan, Garrycastle said Charlie had played with Garrycastle all last year.

Following a query from St. Malachys Dermot Garvin, the Chairman, Tom Farrell said all the contested transfers would be discussed by the management committee before coming back to County Committee.
