Two Lakesiders in NY squad for football championship curtain-raiser

Two former Westmeath footballers are part of the New York squad for this Sunday’s All Ireland Senior Football Championship curtain-raiser against Roscommon in the Big Apple.

Keith Scally (Tyrrellspass) and former dual underage star Luke Loughlin (The Downs) will be hoping that New York can upset the odds when they take on Kevin McStay and Fergal O’Donnell’s high flying side in Gaelic Park this Sunday .

The home side go into Sunday’s Connacht Championship match looking for their first win since entering the competition in 1999. They are up against a Roscommon team who exceeded expectations by making the semi-finals on their return to Division 1 in the Allianz Football League.

While the Rossies were comfortably beaten by Kerry in the league semi-final, they will be entering the championship confident that they can prevent Mayo from making it six Nestor Cups in a row.
