Big day for Lough Lene Gaels this Sunday

Lough Lene Gaels Hurling Club has scheduled its 2018 New Year Challenge event to take place next Sunday January 14. Entrants can run 10km, or run or walk 5km.

Individuals can participate in any one of the three aforementioned disciplines, while families are very welcome to participate in the 5km walk. The entry fee per individual for the 10km run is €18, while the entry fee for the 5km run and walk is €12. Entry fees for a family in the 5km walk a discount will apply.

Intending participants in next Sunday’s 2018 challenge can register to enter from 11.30am onwards next Sunday morning at the Lough Lene Inn, Collinstown. Collinstown itself is both the starting and finishing point for this challenge. It is due to start at 1pm. The event is AAI approved - timing is provided by Pop Up Races.

There is huge local interest this year in the Collinstown New Year Challenge. Lough Lene Gaels put this event on every year. Hundreds are expected to come out in the dry chilly weather to get rid of the winter cobwebs and show their support for the local GAA club as it improves its facilities.

Chairman Joe Potter says the work is coming on well and will seriously crank up in the spring. “We need local families to support our fundraising events and, in return, we try to give people good value,” he added.

Mr Potter says there is a special welcome for walkers too as club begins its quest to be one of the GAA’s nationally recognised healthy clubs.
