Kinnegad Notes
Gold for KinnegadCoralstown U-10 MixedRelay teamThe Mixed U/10 Relay Team from Coralstown Kinnegad has won gold at the last ever Community games final to be held in Mosney. This outstanding team and The Boys U/12 Relay Team, The Girls U/14 Relay Team and The Boys U/14 Relay all enjoyed first round success and all teams qualified in their heats and earned a place in the Semi-Finals that took place on Saturday evening.Unfortunately our good luck didn"t carry through in the Semi-Finals and the Mixed U/10 Relay Team were the only Kinnegad-Coralstown Relay team to qualify for a place in the National Finals on Sunday last. This promising young team - Rachel Glennon, Adam Woods, Patrick Leydon, Nicole Gorry, Laura Toner and Eoghan Bracken - were in top form on Sunday to win the gold. Well done to all - coaches and athletes. This was the first ever gold medal for a Westmeath Relay Team at Mosney. In the Individual Events, Ciara Fogarty just missed out on the medals in the Girls U/14 Shot Putt when she came a very impressive fourth place. She received a certificate. Well done Ciara. Amy Giles too was just short of the medals, when she came in fourth in the finals on Sunday in the Girls U/16 1500m. Amy ran a very impressive Semi- Final on the Saturday, coming in first place.Unfortunately competition was very tough and Amy was just pipped at the post by a narrow margin. Aisling Bracken qualified on Saturday in the Girls U/12 600m Semi-Final. The final on Sunday proved a little more difficult and Aisling was unfortunate not to receive a medal.Rachel Glennon ran a fantastic 100m sprint in the Girls U/10 qualifying in the Saturday Semi-Finals and coming in an impressive 5th place in the final on Sunday. Brendan Keaveny came in 9th overall in the U/12 Ball Throw with a 39 metre throw. Shannon Lyons represented Kinnegad-Coralstown in the Girls U/12 Ball Throw with a 29 metre throw and to come in in overall eighth place. Jordyn O" Connor deserves mention also for her outstanding performance in the U/8 80m sprint. She came in fifth place in the Semi Finals and ran a fantastic race. Well done to all Kinnegad-Coralstown athletes that took part in the National Finals of the Community Games 2008. To get there is a magnificent achievement in itself. Thanks to all that helped out, both at administration and coaching level. Kinnegad-Coralstown were well represented at this, the final weekend of the Community Games National Finals 2008. It was a historic weekend on two accounts - the last Community Games event to take place in the Mosney Centre, Co. Meath and the first ever Gold Medal for a Kinnegad-Coralstown Relay team and indeed for any Westmeath Relay Team at the Community Games National Finals. The following competitors represented Kinnegad-Coralstown at the National Finals.Athletic RelaysMixed U/10 Relay: Rachel Glennon, Nicole Gorry, Patrick Leydon, Adam Woods, Eoghan Bracken and Laura Toner.Boys U/12 Relay: Brendan Keaveny; Kevin Giles; Shane Giles; Evan Toner; Ciarán Bracken; Eoin O" Brien.Girls U/14 Relay: Aileen Murtagh; Caroline Keaveny; Ciara Fogarty; Donna Kiernan; Jayne Leydon; Kayleigh Woods.Boys U/14 Relay: Eibhín O"Meara; Aaron Glynn; Philip Giles; Vinóg Leavy; Darren Giles; Pierce McCarney.Athletics Individual EventsBoys U/14 80m Hurdles: Philip Giles.Girls U/8 80m: Jordyn O" Connor.Girls U/10 100m: Rachel Glennon.Boys U/12 100m: Evan TonerGirls U/12 600m: Aisling BrackenGirls U/16 1500m: Amy GilesAthletics Field EventsBoys U/12 Ball Throw: Brendan KeavenyGirls U/14 Long Jump: Caroline KeavenyGirls U/12 Ball Throw: Shannon LyonsGirls U/14 Shot Putt: Ciara Fogarty New parish school opens this weekGood luck to all of the student starting back to school in Kinnegad parish this week.
