Former Mullingar based Christian Brother is sent forward for trial

A member of the Christian Brothers who served in Mullingar in the 1980s and 1990s has been sent forward for trial on 18 counts of indecent assault.


Thomas McCarry, Clareville, 89A Finglas Road, Glasnevin appeared before Judge Seamus Hughes at district court in Mullingar last Thursday.


The defendant is charged with indecently assaulting a schoolboy on dates unknown between September 1 1984 and June 30 1985.


Inspector Dermot Drea appeared for the DPP and solicitor Donogh Molloy represented the accused.


Garda Deirdreann Delaney gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on the defendant prior to the sitting.


Judge Hughes consented to a state application to have Thomas McCarry sent forward for trial to the next sitting of Mullingar Circuit Court, sitting in Tullamore, on June 25 next.
