Pat and Sabrina celebrating on their wedding day

The best day of our lives pat and sabrina celebrate their dream wedding

It all started 13 ago years when Sabrina, who was working in Liam’s Deli Diner, got to know Pat and they officially got together as a couple 11 years ago. “Pat was doing taxi and I was working in a late night diner at the time, it’s Sophia’s now, and they used to come in for their tea and coffee and that’s how we met,” says Sabrina, smiling at the thought of it. “Pat was the one who asked me out first,” she adds, laughing now.

“I had a run to Dublin and I asked her to come for a drive,” adds Pat, “I got as far as Hamills and I confessed I didn’t have a run to Dublin, and I said ‘Let’s go for a coffee’, so we just sat and talked and that’s how it started.” that is how it started, and where it has led was Annebrook House Hotel on Wednesday August 6, when Pat and Sabrina tied the knot in a wonderful ceremony.

“Winning the Dream Wedding Giveaway meant the world to us,” says Pat. “We were getting married, but being honest, we weren’t going to have the splash we had because we simply wouldn’t have been able to afford it. We had booked in for a small reception, but when we won the competition, it changed everything for the good. “It meant that all the people that were at the wedding were people I really wanted to invite and without the Dream Wedding Giveaway that wouldn’t have been possible. It was a brilliant day.”

It’s a little known fact that Pat, a darts enthusiast, actually proposed to Sabrina in the Annebrook Hotel following an exhibition night by darts legend Terry Jenkins last Christmas. “We actually got engaged six years ago but he never got down on one knee or anything, he just gave me the ring, but that night he got down on one knee and proposed properly at Christmas time,” says Sabrina. “they asked me that night when would we do it,” continues Pat, “and I said ‘August 6th’, it never dawned on that it was actually Sabrina’s birthday. August 6th popped out in my head and Berty Dunne was sitting there, and he took his phone out and checked it and he said, ‘that’s a Wednesday’. “My friend Geraldine McDonnell, who was my bridesmaid, said ‘I’m giving you the deposit now’, and gave Berty 20 cents to book it,” laughs Sabrina.

And the darts theme continued into their wedding day as Pat and Sabrina’s entrance to the meal was accompanied by darts theme tune Chelsea Dagger!

The ceremony

With Geraldine as her bridesmaid and 10-year-old daughter Sorcha as her flower girl, Pat’s brother James as groomsman and his son Thomas as best man, Sabrina says if she had to pick her favourite moment from the entire day it was the civil ceremony, which was also held in the Annebrook.

“We have seven children between us, from 21 down to 14 months, and every one of them had a role to play. Even our 14-month-old Isabella carried the rings up,” Sabrina explains. “It was just so special. It was such a lovely setting, the lights, flowers, the seating arrangements – everything was just perfect. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.” “And Gerry Byrne, the pastor who married us, did a great job. He was absolutely brilliant,” adds Pat, who, encouraged by son Thomas, had a huddle with his bestman and groomsman before he said those two sacred words ‘I do’. “Words can’t describe how well it went,” adds Pat. “I’d like to thank the Annebrook for giving us an absolutely fantastic day, especially Niamh McHugh of the wedding team, and all the sponsors of the competition who did everything to make it a wonderful day for us.” “We’d also like to thank each of our children Jessica, Naomi, Thomas, Simone, Aoife, Sorcha and Isabella,” adds Sabrina.

Berty Dunne, proprietor of Annebrook House Hotel said: “We were delighted to host the wedding of Pat and Sabrina. From start to finish they were a pleasure to deal with. The feedback from them and their family and guests was excellent. We were honoured to share their special day with them and we wish them every happiness in their future together as husband and wife.”
