Mary T Loran and Ruth Corrigan: hoping for at least 40 vehicles at the Rochfortbridge ‘Trucking for Charity' event.

At least 40 trucks expected for Rochfortbridge event

Around 40-50 trucks are expected to the annual Rochfortbridge ‘Trucking for Charity’ event taking place this year on Sunday May 6.

“It’s run every year for different charities, and this year it is for LARCC,” says Ruth Corrigan, one of the team that has organised the event.

“Every place does tractors – so we decided to do something different, which is why we have a truck run.”

While the spectacle of the assemblage and departure and return of the trucks is one aspect of the event, there is much more lined up for this family day out, says Mary T Loran, who with Joe Clinton and Enda Corrigan, is also on the organising committee.

The trucks will be registering from 11.30am until 12.30pm, when they set off in convoy from the former Ascon compound on the Rochfortbridge Road.

“They will head to Tyrrellspass, Kilbeggan and then on to the Tullamore bypass, returning then via the motorway to Rochfortbridge, says Ruth.

Coinciding with the run on the day, there is a range of attractions at Corrigan’s Bar, starting from 2pm – face painting, live music, family fun activities, a bottle stall, a toy stall, a cake stall, a plant stall and games for kids and adults, with a hot food buffet, a tug-o-war, and a raffle and auction.
