Kilbeggan enhancement now looking 'fierce well'
A Ballynacargy councillor travelled to Kilbeggan twice, both in the daytime and at night, to admire the new lights in the town.
Cllr Johnny Penrose was praising the enhancement works carried out on Kilbeggan's Main Street, commenting, "It looks fierce well!"
Works on the enhancement of Kilbeggan Main Street are "progressing well" and are on schedule for completion in April it emerged at last week's Municipal District Meeting.
"To see the old lights coming down, it gives a woeful different outlook altogether," continued the Ballynacargy man who said he returned at nighttime to admire the new lights. "It's a fantastic job. The work that was done by our own staff is just unbelievable."
The significant milestone of ducting the overhead cables was completed last week, while water mains, drainage, public lighting and kerbing are all now complete.
Footpath grading is 85% complete, while road surfacing is 40% complete.
Calling the works "superb" Cllr Liam McDaniel complimented everyone involved.
"I did note in the last week that the overhead cables were removed and the old poles that carried them were removed as well so it has really enhanced the whole project," commented Cllr McDaniel.
The Fianna Fail man also had some concerns.
"The width of the zebra crossing on the west side of the Square, there is a little bit of concern about that but as everyone says, 'let it finish and we'll see how it pans out', I don't want to take from all the good work that has been done by our staff" he said.
