The management committee of Mullingar Agricultural Show have decided to cancel this year’s event.

Paddy Donnelly, PRO, said the decision was taken for safety reasons: “July will come around very quickly, and we’re looking at another six weeks of lockdown, and it would be a huge chance to take for large crowds to come in, and it would be terrible if anybody caught the virus.”

Pointing out that a lot of work goes in to putting the show together every year, Mr Donnelly said that by now a considerable amount of that would be already done by this date in normal years.

“It would be taking too much of a chance to go ahead with it at this stage, and we’re thinking of the safety of the people that come every year and we came to the decision of cancelling.

“We hope to come back bigger and better in 2022.”
