Mullingar Rotary Club has new president

Tom Daly passed the chain of office of president of Mullingar Rotary Club to Donal Lawlor for the 2021/22 year, on Monday.

Donal, a Meath native, has been living in Mullingar for more than 30 years and is looking forward to the challenge of bringing forward the activities of Mullingar Rotary.

The last year was a difficult year for everyone. Rotary Club members were unable to meet in person but kept things moving, as much as possible, with Zoom meetings throughout the year. Activities were curtailed but the club still had a successful year at the Christmas Memorial Tree where, in conjunction with North Westmeath Hospice, €13,000 was raised.

Rotary Club major sponsorship last year was a donation of €20,000 to the local branch of The Irish Wheelchair Association for a new minibus.

In the coming year, members are looking forward to returning to in-person meetings and to welcoming new members to help with their activities in the community.

Next week they launch the School Bikes for Africa project in association with Westmeath County Council, and other activities and events will follow throughout the year.
