Vigils in memory of Ashling Murphy taking place across the county this weekend

Vigils in memory of the late Ashling Murphy are taking place across the county this weekend.

At 4pm this evening, a vigil walk is talking place on the Nancy to Nell trackway in Fore, setting off from the car park at 4pm.

St Paul's Delvin Ladies GFC is holding a memorial vigil at 7.15pm this evening at Clonmellon GAA pitch before their first match of the winter league.

Tomorrow afternoon at 4pm, a memorial vigil is taking place at Mullingar Town Park.

At 7pm, a memorial vigil walk is taking place in Delvin. Starting at the mart, the walk will go to South Hill.

Books of Condolence in memory of Ashling have been opened at the Westmeath County Council Civic Offices in Mullingar and Athlone.

The Books of Condolence are available at the civic offices in Mullingar and Athlone from today, 14th January, 2022 for one week, between the hours of 9.30am and 4pm.

Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council Cllr Frankie Keena has arranged for books of condolence to be placed in both civic offices to allow people to express their sympathies to Ashling’s family.

"I am just numb, shocked, saddened and angry with what happened to this young woman as she went out for her daily exercise after work on the greenway along the Canal in Tullamore and was attacked in such a vicious way," said Cllr Keena.
