It turned out there are two Irish dancing converts among this international group of friends who came from Dublin for the fleadh. From left Huanwei Liu and Tzuchien Tseng, both from Taiwan; Midori Miyashita from Japan; Paco Noriega from Mexico and Barry Stenson, from Carrick-on-Shannon.

Converts to Irish dance fandom

The art of Irish dancing may be about to spread to Mexico - or it has at least gained one enthusiastic new fan from that country, thanks to the fleadh.

Mexican visitor Paco Noriega was so impressed by the Irish dancers he saw in action that he had to try it out for himself - and now he's on the road to being hooked!

"Probably I will learn: I am thinking about it," said Paco who was one of a very international group visting the fleadh together, the others being Huanwei Liu and Tzuchien Tseng, both from Taiwan; Midori Miyashita from Japan and Barry Stenson, from Carrick-on-Shannon.

It turned out that Midori had beaten him out of the traps however: she had already taken her first steps on the dance floor: "I have done some sean nós dancing in Glasnevin," she revealed.
